For some reason we don’t see a lot of items by the Danish designer Jane Wiberg in this country. She was active in Copenhagen from 1959-1983, and also worked for the firm Jane & Finn from 1971-77.
This buckle is a layered amalgam of sterling silver elements in brut modernist style, surrounding a beautiful striated black stone. The black leather belt is unsigned and isn't original to the buckle.
Size: Buckle measures 3 1/8” x 2” at widest points, the belt will fit 28 1/2” to 33 1/2”
Marks: Jane Wiberg, Sterling. I was surprised at first that it is not marked “Denmark”, but the other pieces of hers that I’ve seen online under her own name are signed in the same way, while the Jane & Finn pieces are marked “Denmark”
Condition: Buckle retains original patina and is in good vintage condition. The large ball shape at the bottom looks dinged, though that may have been intentional. The black leather belt is in funky condition, a bit worn, but not stained and perfectly wearable.
